I’ve tried almost every “diet” you can think of. Some of them worked for me, some of them didn’t.
After I had my first son in 2015, I learned about “flexible dieting”, or macro counting. It was also the first time I really started strength training. I worked with a trainer who introduced me to both, and it changed my life on so many levels. Counting macros helped me have a healthier relationship with food because nothing was off limits. I could eat the foods I loved, while learning how to prioritize protein and eat enough carbs to fuel me properly. My short term goal back then was to “lose the baby weight”, which I did, but more importantly, I learned an approach that worked for me long term. Counting macros, and understanding them, is a framework that still underpins my nutritional philosophy and has worked for me no matter my goal. Sometimes that means tracking my food and focusing on hitting my macro targets closely so I can reach a weight target. Sometimes, that means relying on the foundations I’ve built without tracking and leaning into maintenance.
And the best part? I learned how to live my life, while raising 2 boys and working full time, prioritizing the things I value, in a body that is strong and that I’m proud of.
